P.J. McMahon – Team Murka’s Veterinarian
P. J. McMahon has dedicated his life’s work to keeping Sport Horses at the top of their game. It is a great honour that Team Murka has such a close affiliation with one of the sport’s world leading and globally respected equine veterinarians.
Having qualified in veterinary care at Dublin University in 1971, P.J. started his practice in England just two years later in 1973. He focused on treating Sport Horses mainly in the south of England. P.J.’s specialty is lameness in sports horses in particular show jumpers, dressage, and three-day eventing.
In the early nineties, P.J. took on another responsibility as the Irish Show Jumping veterinarian for three years before being lured away by the United States Equestrian Foundation. As a consultant for the USEF, P.J. is mainly involved in three day eventing.
Since 2005, P.J. has treated and cared for Team Murka’s horses. Peter Charles and P.J. McMahon met over twenty years ago, when Peter requested P.J. to treat one of his horses. They have built a very close relationship over the years and as a result P.J. is the only veterinarian in England that Peter allows to treat his horses.
P.J. McMahon’s responsibilities for Team Murka have been to provide outstanding veterinarian care by ensuring a steady schedule of routine vaccinations, teeth, and fitness tests to assure all of the horses remain in top condition for upcoming competitions. In addition, P.J. treats any lameness issues whilst the horses are in the U.K.
