Reigning King George V Gold Cup champion Murka’s Pall Mall has retired to stud following a successful career as a grand prix horse with Britain’s Peter Charles.
The 16.3hh 13-year-old KWPN, a son of Galoubet A out of the Grannus daughter L-Grannus, will stand at Pembers Hill Stud, Eastleigh, Hants. Fresh and chilled semen is available for a fee of £750 NFNF (1 October).
“Pall Mall never had semen collected while he was competing with me,” says Peter Charles. “It was always a agreement between his owner [Sandra Lynn Cordiner] and me that he would spend a few years competing, then retire to stud. Although at 13 he is not that old, he has won a lot and retiring him now will give him plenty of time to be used as a breeding stallion.”
Murka’s Pall Mall joined Team Murka, founded by Olga White, in 2005. As a top international horse, he has won grands prix in Europe and America since then and jumped clear on Top Level Nations Cup teams.
His pedigree contains a combination of bloodlines that should enable him to become a sire of future champions. Galoubet A, his sire, has not only proved himself as a sire of winners but also a sire of sires. Among his progeny are triple World Cup winner Baloubet Du Rouet, Quick Star and Skippy II.
His dam-sire Grannus (also known as Grannus-Granit) has passed his breeding traits on to his daughters, among who is Gigantin, dam of the stallion For Pleasure.
“His talent and ability should pass on to his progeny,” says Pembers Hill Stud proprietor Kevin Cooper. “In addition to his performance record, Murka’s Pall Mall also has a lovely temperament and is a pleasure to deal with.”
